St. Edward is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They blew past Walther Christian Academy 17-2. The victory continues a trend for the Green Wave in their matchups with the Broncos: they've now won seven in a row.
Alaina Nolan made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over four innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Mackenzie Fitzpatrick, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, two doubles, and one RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April. Taylor Dawson was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs and two RBI.
St. Edward always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .647. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Harvest Christian Academy got the win against Chicago Hope Academy on Thursday by a conclusive 11-1. The result was nothing new for the Lions, who have now won 11 games by six runs or more so far this season.
Alyssa Burke spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on five hits.
On the hitting side, Kenzie Weidman was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and one triple. Another player making a difference was Mackenzie Richards, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.
Harvest Christian Academy's win bumped their record up to 12-14. As for St. Edward, they now have a winning record of 15-14.
Everything went St. Edward's way against Harvest Christian Academy when the teams last played last Monday, as St. Edward made off with a 16-3 victory. Will the Green Wave repeat their success, or do the Lions have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
