St. Mary suffered their biggest loss since December 1, 2023 on Thursday. They were the victim of a rough 61-35 loss at the hands of St. David. St. Mary's was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 44-17.
St. Mary's lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Abby Sottini, who scored 14 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Sottini has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Helen Newcomb, who scored 11 points.
St. David's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Eliza Everett, who dropped a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds. Everett is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last six games she's played. Kate Benson was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with six assists and five steals.
St. Mary's has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-10 record this season. As for St. David's, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 14-5.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. St. Mary's will take on North Raleigh Christian Academy at 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday. North Raleigh Christian Academy is looking to tack on another W to their three-game streak on the road. As for St. David's, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Chatham HomeSchool at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
