After two games on the road, Fike is heading back home. Having just played yesterday, they will get right back to it and host the Southern Wayne Saints at 6:00 p.m. on January 19th. Both teams come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
On Thursday, Fike strolled past C.B. Aycock with points to spare, taking the game 48-33. Given Fike's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 126th, while C.B. Aycock is ranked 371st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Jewel Brewington, who scored 22 points. She continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Jalia Daniels was another key contributor, scoring six points.
Meanwhile, Southern Wayne scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They blew past Smithfield-Selma 52-4 at home. For those curious, yes, that was the biggest victory Southern Wayne has managed all season.
Southern Wayne found their leader in underclassman Kymora Stokes, who scored 18 points along with four steals. That's the first time this season that Stokes scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Destiny Bullock, who scored seven points.
Fike pushed their record up to 10-3 with that win, which was their eighth straight on the road. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.1 points per game. As for Southern Wayne, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a massive bump to their 6-8 record this season.
Friday's contest is shaping up to be a scrappy contest: Fike have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 24.3 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Southern Wayne struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 8.7 rebounds per game. Given Fike's sizeable advantage in that area, Southern Wayne will need to find a way to close that gap.
