Football Recap: North Decatur Starts Season with Victory Against South Decatur

North Decatur took care of business in their home opener (and then some) on Friday. They took their game with ease, bagging a 61-0 win over the South Decatur Cougars. The Chargers pushed the score to 54-0 by the end of the third, a deficit the Cougars had no chance of recovering from.

Leading North Decatur to victory were Corbin Thackery and Matthew Fields. Thackery gained 88 total yards and four touchdowns, while Fields threw for 135 yards and three touchdowns while completing 77.8% of his passes. Those 135 passing yards gave Fields a new career-high.

North Decatur's run defense was locked in: South Decatur could only muster 0.2 yards per carry. The team can thank Eli Trenkamp for the heroic effort on defense: he. North Decatur didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 8.3.

Special teams also played a big role in the game for North Decatur, adding 19 points to the final score. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Thackery, who ran a punt back for a touchdown.

Looking ahead, North Decatur will challenge Eastern Hancock at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for South Decatur, they will take on Shenandoah at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
