Weslaco East is a perfect 9-0 against Pace since March of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Weslaco East Wildcats will host the Pace Vikings at 7:00 p.m. Weslaco East will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.
On Tuesday, Weslaco East made easy work of Rivera and carried off a 12-1 win. The Wildcats might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matches by six runs or more this season.
Aubrey Zuniga made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing five innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one double.
In other batting news, Weslaco East got a massive performance out of Jessica Salazar, who scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Angelica Herrera, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.
Weslaco East always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .543. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .500 or higher in four consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, after a string of five wins, Pace's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They came up short against Mercedes, falling 12-2.
Pace saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Victoria Vasquez, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base.
Weslaco East pushed their record up to 12-2 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Pace, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-6.
Friday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Weslaco East has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .514. However, it's not like Pace struggles in that department as they've averaged .462. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
