Summit has gone a perfect 10-0 against Bloomington recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The SkyHawks will face off against the Bruins at 3:45 p.m. Summit is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.6 runs per game this season.
Summit made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Jurupa Hills, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The SkyHawks were the clear victors by an 11-2 margin over the Spartans on Friday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the SkyHawks considering their one-run performance the game before.
Jysel Guerrero spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on seven hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Clarissa Leon was excellent, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and one double. Another player making a difference was Aliza Henriquez, who scored a run while going 1-for-4.
Summit hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Bloomington was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They came up short against Colton, falling 19-3.
Bloomington saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Izabella Reyes, who went 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI. Vanessa Chavez also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Summit has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 8-8 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.3 runs over those games. As for Bloomington, their loss dropped their record down to 1-6.
Bloomington's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Summit has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.8 hits per game. It's a different story for Bloomington, though, as they've been averaging 12.9 hits. Given Summit's sizable advantage in that area, the Bruins will need to find a way to close that gap.
Summit took their victory against Bloomington when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 21-2 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the SkyHawks since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
