Football Recap: Leuzinger Piles Up the Points Against Hawthorne

Leuzinger won the last time they faced Hawthorne and things went their way on Friday too. The Olympians simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Cougars 61-6. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Olympians' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 49th, while the Cougars are ranked 749th).

Leuzinger was led to victory by Russell Sekona and Kelton Strickland. Sekona threw for 170 yards and four touchdowns on perfect 6-for-6 passing, while Strickland rushed for 87 yards and one score. The dominant performance also gave Sekona a new career-high in passer rating (177.1). Jamaal Fay was in the mix too, providing Leuzinger with one TD.

Leuzinger didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Sinamone Hola, Braylin Spencer, and Pakipole Moala picked up one apiece. Moala got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Leuzinger's record is now 3-1. As for Hawthorne, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-5.

Coming up, Leuzinger will head out to face off against Inglewood at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Sentinels will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more points each matchup than the last. As for Hawthorne, they will host El Segundo at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The contest will give the Cougars their first taste of in-conference action this season.
