Softball Recap: Bishop Kelly Wins High-Profile Match Against Vallivue

Bishop Kelly faced Vallivue in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Monday. The Knights blew past the Falcons 16-1. Considering the Knights have won 13 games by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Lauren Fettic made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 14 consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI and one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, Bishop Kelly let Kingsley Shea and Jaynie Burke run wild. Shea went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI, while Burke went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. That's the most RBI Burke has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Margaret Acuna, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

Bishop Kelly always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .579. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Vallivue only posted an OBP of .300.

Bishop Kelly has been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.6 runs on average over those games. As for Vallivue, with the defeat, they broke their four-game winning streak and moved their record to 18-7.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Bishop Kelly is set to take on their familiar foe Middleton at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Knights 3.7, the Vikings 2.9) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Vallivue will square off against rival Nampa at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
