Mason Draper tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Deltona is 3-1 when Draper allowsthree or fewer hits, but 3-9 otherwise.
On the hitting side, Deltona's victory was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Cole Goodnoe, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI. Yandiel Torres was another, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Umatilla made easy work of Lake Weir on Tuesday and carried off an 11-1 win. The victory continues a trend for the Bulldogs in their matchups with the Hurricanes: they've now won three in a row.
Umatilla also got a great performance from Jace Carlson as he didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. What's more, Carlson gave up only zero earned runs, the fewest he's had since back in February.
At the plate, Aidan Ross was incredible, scoring four runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Those four runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Wyatt Strawbridge, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3.
Umatilla was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .458. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Deltona's win bumped their record up to 6-10. As for Umatilla, their victory bumped their record up to 10-7.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Deltona has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Umatilla struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.1 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Deltona couldn't quite get it done against Umatilla in their previous meeting back in February as they fell 3-0. Will Deltona have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more baseball content.
