Softball Recap: Alexandria Snags Sixth Victory in Last Seven Games

While Alexandria's victory against Ruston wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Alexandria Trojans had just enough and edged out the Ruston Bearcats 15-14 on Tuesday. The Trojans have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Bearcats, too.

Ella Melder made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over six innings while giving up three earned (and six unearned) runs off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-5. She also hit a triple, marking her first of the season.

In other batting news, Alexandria let Amiyah Wilson and Sarah Grace Buckels run wild. Wilson scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4, while Buckels scored three runs while going 2-for-4. The dominant performance gave Wilson a new career-high in runs. Jas'Breille Miller was another key player, going 1-for-5 with two stolen bases and three RBI.

Alexandria kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Ruston only managed seven hits.

Alexandria is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.9 runs over those games. This is the second loss in a row for Ruston and nudges their season record down to 7-6.

Coming up, Alexandria will head out to face off against Ouachita Parish at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Ouachita Parish knows how to get runs on the board -- the team has finished with ten runs or more in their past five games -- so hopefully Alexandria likes a good challenge. As for Ruston, they will be playing at home against Pineville at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Ruston has given up an average of 6.8 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
