The Regents Lions will head out on the road to face off against the Western Albemarle Warriors at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Regents took a loss when they played away from home last Thursday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. They put the hurt on Temple Christian with a sharp 13-1 win. The result was nothing new for the Lions, who have now won five contests by ten runs or more so far this season.

Sam Johnson and Paul Duval made a splash no matter where they played. On the mound, Johnson struck out six batters over 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (and not a single walk). Meanwhile, Duval tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. That's the most strikeouts Johnson has posted since back in April of 2024. At bat, Johnson went 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double, while Duval went 1-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Duval is becoming a predictor of Regents' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 5-1 (and 3-4 when he doesn't).
In other batting news, Regents let Tucker Jamison and David Shonka run wild. Jamison went a perfect 3-for-3 with four stolen bases and three runs, while Shonka went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. That's the most RBI Shonka has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Luke Trivette, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one stolen base.
Regents always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .607. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Temple Christian only posted an OBP of .238.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Western Albemarle). They were the clear victors by a 13-7 margin over Charlottesville on Thursday. The victory continues a trend for the Warriors in their matchups with the Black Knights: they've now won nine in a row.
Jack Connelly made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, going 4-for-5 with three doubles, three RBI, and two runs.
In other batting news, Jack Parkins was incredible, going 2-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. He also put up a double, which was his first of the season. Jay Miller was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI and one double.
Regents' record is now 8-5. As for Western Albemarle, their record now sits at 6-4.
Friday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Regents hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .314. However, it's not like Western Albemarle struggles in that department as they've averaged .315. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
