After flying high against the Maloney Spartans last Friday, the RHAM Raptors came back down to earth. RHAM was outmatched by Newington on the road and fell 63-34. RHAM was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 39-13.
Newington got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Bela Cucuta out in front who scored 19 points along with three blocks. Cucuta is absolutely dominating the point category: she's posted at least 15 every time she's taken the court this season. Kendall Miller was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with five assists and three steals.
RHAM dropped their record down to 3-10 with that defeat, which was their third straight on the road. As for Newington, the win was the eighth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-2.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. RHAM will take on Simsbury at 6:45 p.m. on Friday. Simsbury presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than RHAM in Connecticut (Simsbury is ranked second, while RHAM is ranked 118th). As for Newington, their homestand continues as they prepare to take on Windsor at 5:30 p.m. on January 26th. Windsor is coming into the contest hot, having won their last four games.
