Basketball Game Preview: Logan Longhorns vs. Texico Wolverines

The Logan Longhorns will face off against the Texico Wolverines at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Texico will be up against a hot Logan team: the squad just extended their winning streak to 15. Logan blew past Coronado, posting a 66-18 victory. Given the Longhorns' advantage in MaxPreps' New Mexico basketball rankings (they are ranked 18th, while the Leopards are ranked 124th), the result on Saturday wasn't entirely unexpected.

Hayden Bruhn was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 28 points and 14 boards. He is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last nine games he's played. Mason Wallin was another key player, going 5 of 6 on his way to 10 points and three steals.

Logan smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 22 consecutive matches dating back to last season.

Meanwhile, you can't lose the game if you win every quarter, and that was precisely Texico's strategy against Hagerman on Tuesday. Texico was the clear victor by a 73-48 margin over Hagerman. The win was nothing new for the Wolverines as they're now sitting on four straight.

Texico pushed their record up to 13-1 with the victory, which was their seventh straight on the road. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 75.6 points per game. As for Logan, their win bumped their record up to 15-0.

Logan was able to grind out a solid victory over Texico in their previous matchup back in January of 2024, winning 72-64. The rematch might be a little tougher for Logan since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
