The St. John's Islanders's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss. They took a 61-56 hit to the loss column at the hands of Charleston Math & Science. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Charleston Math & Science found their leader in underclassman Ben Gilliard, who scored 18 points along with two steals. That's the first time this season that Gilliard scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Tyler Simmons, who scored ten points along with two steals.
St. John's has been struggling recently, as they've lost five of their last six matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-15 record this season. As for Charleston Math & Science, the victory got them back to even at 10-10.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. St. John's will take on Baptist Hill at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Baptist Hill has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 357 points over their last five games. As for Charleston Math & Science, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Palmetto Scholars Academy at 7:30 p.m. Palmetto Scholars Academy is no doubt hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses.
