Softball Recap: Morningside Academy Extends Winning Streak to Six

Morningside Academy entered their tilt with Calvary Chapel Academy on Thursday with five consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with six. They walked away with a 7-2 victory over Calvary Chapel Academy. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 11-2 back in February.

Leigha Race made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out ten over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in ten consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-4.

In other batting news, Morningside Academy got a massive performance out of Madison LeVasseur, who scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. LeVasseur has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times she's played. Morgan Helphrey also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Morningside Academy hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least two batters in three consecutive games.

Morningside Academy pushed their record up to 11-1 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.7 runs over those games. As for Calvary Chapel Academy, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-8.

Morningside Academy has already played their next matchup, an 18-3 win against Westwood on the 4th. As for Calvary Chapel Academy, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 9-4 loss against First Academy on the 4th.
