Shamrock is 1-8 against Gruver since November of 2014 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Shamrock Irish will head out on the road to face off against the Gruver Greyhounds at 7:00 p.m. Both teams come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
After only six points in their last matchup, Shamrock made sure to put some points up on the board against Memphis on Friday. Shamrock simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Memphis 44-2 at home.
Shamrock can attribute much of their success to Terry Menefield, who picked up 154 receiving yards and three touchdowns, and Philip Cook, who threw for 266 yards and six touchdowns while picking up 13.3 yards per attempt. Menefield's longest reception was for an incredible 79 yards. Braxton Allen did his part for the team as well, scoring a TD off of 29 receiving yards.
Meanwhile, Gruver came tearing into last Thursday's game with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 17.8 points) and they left with even more momentum. They blew past Boys Ranch, posting a 68-12 win at home. The result was nothing new for Gruver, who have now won five games by 20 points or more so far this season.
Gruver relied on the efforts of Pratt McLain, who rushed for 108 yards and two touchdowns, and Briggs Satterfield, who threw for 188 yards and four touchdowns while completing 100% of his passes.
Shamrock's win bumped their record up to 5-5. As for Gruver, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 8-2 record this season.
Shamrock suffered a grim 63-40 defeat to Gruver in their previous matchup back in November of 2021. Can Shamrock avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
