Basketball Recap: Brandeis Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Finley Montoya and Sean Tisdall

Brandeis was the 73-52 winner over Madison when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. The Brandeis Broncos took a 66-58 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Madison Mavericks on Wednesday. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Broncos came into the contest with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 199th, while the Mavericks are ranked 473rd).

Sean Tisdall and Finley Montoya certainly did their best on Wednesday to avoid the loss. Tisdall went 6 of 15 en route to 24 points, while Montoya posted 19 points in addition to seven boards and three steals. Tisdall's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Jaylin Baker, who scored five points.

Brandeis has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 18-13 record this season. As for Madison, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-18 record this season.

Brandeis will take on SA Roosevelt at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Brandeis is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 63.5 points per game this season. As for Madison, they will head out on the road to take on LEE at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. Considering LEE has lost five straight at home and Madison five straight on the road , this one might come down to who's more desperate to change their momentum.
