The Deep Creek Hornets will face off against the Western Branch Bruins at 5:45 p.m. on Thursday. Deep Creek is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 11.2 runs per game this season.
On Wednesday, Deep Creek didn't have quite enough to beat Granby and fell 5-4. The loss was the Hornets' first of the season.
Deep Creek saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lilly B, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. B is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: she's snagged at least one every time she's taken the field this season. Another was Hannah Liddell, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, Western Branch put another one in the bag on Monday to keep their perfect season alive. They blew past Bayside 13-1. Fans of the Bruins have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 6+ runs.
Ava Giacometti looked comfortable as she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched.
On the hitting side, Marissa Bernheimer was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Kendall Edmondson, who scored two runs while going 2-for-2.
Western Branch kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in six consecutive matches dating back to last season.
Western Branch's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 3-0. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 13.0 runs this season. As for Deep Creek, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 3-1.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Deep Creek has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Western Branch struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Deep Creek might still be hurting after the 13-3 defeat they got from Western Branch in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Will Deep Creek have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other softball content.
