The Midland Valley Mustangs's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their tenth straight loss. They took a hard 56-37 fall against Strom Thurmond. While losing is never fun, Midland Valley can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 219th, while Strom Thurmond is ranked 103rd).
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Strom Thurmond to victory, but perhaps none more so than Roosevelt Walker, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and ten rebounds. The matchup was Walker's fifth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Quan Edmond, who scored 13 points along with eight rebounds.
Midland Valley has fallen quite a ways from their 18-7 record last season and are now at 1-11. As for Strom Thurmond, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Midland Valley will challenge Aiken at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The timing is sure in Aiken's favor as the squad sits on five straight wins at home while Midland Valley has been banged up by seven consecutive losses on the road. Strom Thurmond is on the road again on Wednesday and play against Batesburg-Leesville at 7:30 p.m. on January 10th.
