Basketball Recap: Edinburg Picks Up Fourth Consecutive Win

Edinburg had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 20 points) and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. They came out on top against the Economedes Jaguars by a score of 57-50. Given the Bobcats' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 374th, while the Jaguars are ranked 863rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Edinburg's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Brayan Martinez led the charge by going 9 for 18 en route to 27 points. That's the most points Martinez has posted since back in November of 2024. Adrian Champion was another key player, putting up 11 points along with seven rebounds and three steals.

When it comes to explaining why Economedes lost, don't look at Nathaniel De La Garza. Despite the final result, he went 8 of 13 on his way to 26 points. De La Garza continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Alexandro Zurita, who went 5 for 11 en route to 14 points and five boards.

Edinburg's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 20-8. As for Economedes, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 14-11.

Edinburg wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 56-53 victory against Weslaco on the 14th. Economedes has also already played their next matchup, a 58-40 defeat against La Joya on the 14th.
