Softball Recap: Las Cruces Extends Winning Streak to Four

Las Cruces had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Thursday. They blew past the Gadsden Panthers 12-1. The Bulldawgs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine contests by eight runs or more this season.

Kaia Renteria was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Renteria was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Zaysha Hawkins, who went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. Erica Silva was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one triple.

Las Cruces' victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-3. As for Gadsden, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-12.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Las Cruces will take on rival Organ Mountain at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Gadsden is set to face off against their familiar foe Centennial at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
