II Section III recap October 1, 2013
Deer Valley extended the longest winning streak in II Section III this week by beating Apollo, 27-6. The victory was the fourth in a row for the Skyhawks.
Kellis fell to Ironwood 37-12 last week, the largest margin of any game. Adam Muller was a bright spot for the Cougars, as he threw for 176 yards and ran for 33 yards in the loss.
Willow Canyon's dynamic duo of Tristan Madden and Alex Gallaspy proved to be unstoppable against Paradise Valley, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Madden threw for 182 yards and 2 touchdowns and Gallaspy had 82 yards receiving. Matt Mattingly helped Willow Canyon's passing attack out by catching 3 balls for 46 yards.
Jett Robertson was a passing and rushing force as the Eagles defeated Kellis. He completed 5 passes for 59 yards and 2 touchdowns and also ran for 312 yards. Robertson's favorite target this week was Ethan Eberson, who caught 3 passes for 59 yards.
Dedrick Young was a force in the backfield as Centennial topped Liberty.
He went 13-32 with 3 interceptions.
Colby Fornerette made the biggest impact on defense this week as the Wildcats fell to the Trojans. The 5-foot-10 junior racked up 2.0 sacks.
The Lions' Tyler Wyatt and Chad Bennett have formed a dream team this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Wyatt has thrown for 1,001 yards this season, while Bennett, a 5-foot-9 receiver, has 17 catches for 259 yards. The Coyotes' Young leads the league in rushing yards with 873.
The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place Deer Valley takes on second place Centennial. Deer Valley beat the Hawks last week, while Centennial topped Liberty.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Richard Taylor's team takes on Eric Bolus' team. The Coyotes have allowed 109 points this season, while the Skyhawks have given up 53. Centennial allowed 31 points last week as it defeated Danny Filleman's team.
Ironwood made the biggest leap in the national rankings this week, rising to 8,921 from 10,535. They were able to move up in the ranks after a 37-12 victory over Jason Golden's team last week.
