The Fort Meade Miners are taking a road trip to square off against the Santa Fe Catholic Hawks at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Fort Meade is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.9 runs per game this season.
Fort Meade gave up the first runs on Friday, but they didn't let that get them down. They came out on top against Hardee by a score of 5-1. The game was the first time the Miners have beaten the Wildcats on their field since February 27, 2020.
Zachary Brooks spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on five hits and racked up seven Ks. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-low in walks (zero).
On the hitting side, Fort Meade's win was truly a team effort as seven different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Owen Harrell, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, Santa Fe Catholic was able to grind out a solid victory over Auburndale on Thursday, taking the game 4-1. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Hawks.
Santa Fe Catholic also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and he was also dialed-in: Aaron Walsh gave up only one earned run on two hits and racked up nine Ks. Those nine strikeouts gave Walsh a new career-high.
At the plate, Angel Andujar was excellent, scoring a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Easton Beach was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.
Santa Fe Catholic hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Auburndale struck out nine times.
Fort Meade pushed their record up to 13-6 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Santa Fe Catholic, their record now sits at 15-3.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Fort Meade has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.5 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Santa Fe Catholic struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.5 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
