Ferndale is 2-7 against Oak Park since November of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Ferndale Eagles will head out on the road to face off against the Oak Park Knights at 7:00 p.m. Hopefully Ferndale focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 on Tuesday.
Even though Ferndale has not done well against Harper Woods recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way. Ferndale snuck past Harper Woods with a 60-55 win. The final score was a far cry from the score of their previous head-to-head, which saw the teams combine for two points.
Ferndale got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Janiya Larry out in front who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 11 rebounds. Aaliyah Frost was another key contributor, scoring 16 points along with six rebounds and five assists.
Meanwhile, Oak Park was beaten by Avondale 49-17 on Friday. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Oak Park has scored all season.
Taylor Adamson was Oak Park's leading scorer, having posted 13 points. Adamson also led the team in rebounds with 12.
TaNia Livingston took the lead distributing the ball, coming up with three assists.
Ferndale pushed their record up to 10-3 with that win, which was their third straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.0 points per game. As for Oak Park, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-8.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Ferndale have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 35.5 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Oak Park struggles in that department as they've been averaging 32.7 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Ferndale beat Oak Park 48-40 in their previous matchup back in February of 2023. The rematch might be a little tougher for Ferndale since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
