For the first time this season, Loveland will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They will head out on the road to challenge the Frederick Golden Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
The home team had come away the winner the last five times Loveland and Thompson Valley had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Red Wolves were just a hair shy of victory last Friday and fell 10-9 to the Eagles. The Red Wolves have struggled against the Eagles recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Special teams was responsible for all of the team's points. All those points came courtesy of Vincent Wimmer: he added nine points with three field goals.
Meanwhile, Frederick entered their tilt with Thornton on Friday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They really took it to the Trojans for the full four quarters, racking up a 54-6 win. The Golden Eagles pushed the score to 47-0 by the end of the third, a deficit the Trojans had no chance of recovering from.
Frederick's win came from a few key players Loveland will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Preston Kissinger, who threw for 220 yards and three TDs on perfect 12-for-12 passing, and also rushed for 34 yards. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in passer rating (177.1). Sonny Delpizzo was another key player, gaining 126 total yards and two touchdowns.
Frederick was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 214 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 159 rushing yards in three consecutive matchups.
On the defensive side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Frederick's defense and their five sacks. In that department, Marllow McCoy was the leader with two. The game marked his first with multiple sacks this season.
Frederick now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Loveland, they now have a losing record of 2-3.
Loveland was dealt a bruising 41-7 defeat at the hands of Frederick when the teams last played back in October of 2024. Thankfully for the Red Wolves, Gavin Ishmael (who rushed for 141 yards and three touchdowns on only 14 carries, and also threw for 274 yards and a pair of TDs while picking up 11.0 yards per attempt) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
