The Northeast Vikings came tearing into Saturday's matchup with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 29 points) and they left with even more momentum. They beat Cathedral Prep by the very same score they won with last week: 65-53. For Northeast, this counts as revenge for the 61-33 defeat Cathedral Prep walked away with the last time they faced one another back in December of 2021.
It was another big night for Darrius Gaeta, who scored 19 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. That makes it four consecutive games in which he has scored at least 25% of Northeast's points. Another player making a difference was Michael Freeman, who scored 18 points along with five rebounds.
Northeast's victory bumped their record up to 6-1. As for Cathedral Prep, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-2.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Northeast will take on Boys' Latin Charter at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Cathedral Prep will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Bishop Verot at 6:00 p.m. on January 5, 2024.
