Florence Christian and Christian Academy are an even 4-4 against one another since January of 2015, but not for long. The Florence Christian Eagles will be playing in front of their home fans against the Christian Academy Saints at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Both teams come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Tuesday, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Florence Christian beat Williamsburg Academy 22-16.
Florence Christian's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Leah Lambert, who scored seven points along with seven rebounds and two steals. Lambert continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Emerson Poston, who scored four points along with nine rebounds and five steals.
Meanwhile, Christian Academy put the finishing touches on their 13th blowout victory of the season on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Carolina Academy with a sharp 36-13 win. The victory was familiar territory for Christian Academy who now have five in a row.
Christian Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Claire Owens led the charge by scoring 11 points along with five rebounds and four steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Owens has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Carly Belle Jackson, who scored 11 points along with six steals.
Florence Christian now has a winning record of 9-8. As for Christian Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 17-4 record this season.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Florence Christian have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 25.9 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Christian Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 32.6 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Florence Christian was taken down by Christian Academy 42-12 in their previous meeting two weeks ago. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Christian Academy's Payton Rumley, who scored eight points along with 20 rebounds and five assists.
