Basketball Recap: McKinley Takes a Loss

McKinley was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were two points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 47-45 heartbreaker at the hands of the Jackson Polar Bears. While losing is never fun, the Bulldogs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 144th, while the Polar Bears are ranked 37th).

Despite the loss, McKinley still got an impressive performance from Mya Taylor, who posted 26 points. The contest was Taylor's ninth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of K'Lynn Carter, who earned six points along with 12 rebounds and three steals.

Even though they lost, McKinley smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 16 consecutive games.

McKinley's defeat dropped their record down to 7-9. As for Jackson, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 10-3 record this season.

When McKinley and Jackson next hit the court, they'll be up against teams who recently just can't seem to lose. McKinley will try to stop Hoover's four-game winning streak when the meet at 6:45 p.m. on Wednesday. Similarly, Jackson will try to stop Green's nine-game winning streak when the meet at 6:45 p.m. on Wednesday.
