Halifax County has gone a perfect 6-0 against Mecklenburg County recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Comets are taking a road trip to take on the Phoenix at 5:30 p.m. Halifax County is coming into the game on a four-game losing streak.
Halifax County blew Patrick County out of the water the last time the pair played, but on Monday Patrick County got their revenge. The Comets fell just short of the Cougars by a score of 6-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Comets have suffered since April 1, 2025.
Andrew Morgan made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Caiden Brooks, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI.
Meanwhile, Mecklenburg County didn't have quite enough to beat Nottoway on Monday and fell 3-2. That's two games in a row now that the Phoenix have lost by just one run.
Dalton Whittington was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He tossed three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. What's more, he gave up only two walks, the fewest he's had since back in May of 2025. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base.
In other pitching news, Mecklenburg County got a good showing from Alexander Pulley, who tossed 3.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits.
Back at the plate, Aaron Thompson was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one triple and one run. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season.
Halifax County's record now sits at 2-8. As for Mecklenburg County, their record is now 2-5.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. Halifax County hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.7 home runs per game. However, it's not like Mecklenburg County struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.4 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Halifax County got the 'W' in their previous matchup back in May of 2025 against Mecklenburg County by a conclusive 18-9 score. Will the Comets repeat their success, or do the Phoenix have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
