The Calhoun Red Devils had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 20.2 points), and they went ahead and made it six on Saturday. They really took it to Paden City for the full four quarters, racking up a 70-39 victory at home. Given Calhoun's advantage in MaxPreps' West Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 96th, while Paden City is ranked 846th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Landon Bennett was his usual excellent self, scoring 25 points along with seven rebounds and five steals. That makes it five consecutive games in which he has scored at least a third of Calhoun's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jacob Marks, who scored 15 points along with three steals.
Calhoun pushed their record up to 10-7 with that win, which was their third straight at home. They've been dominating during the matchups in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 36.3 points. As for Paden City, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-14.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Calhoun will square off against Hannan at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Paden City, they will head out on the road to face off against Beallsville at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Beallsville has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last five games.
