The Gering Bulldogs's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their sixth straight loss. They were outmatched by Waverly at home and fell 67-37. While losing is never fun, Gering can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 167th, while Waverly is ranked 25th).
Despite the loss, Gering still got an impressive performance from Makenzie Todd, who scored 13 points.
Waverly's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Peyton Tritz, who scored 14 points. The game was Tritz's sixth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Parker Christiansen, who scored 13 points.
Gering bumped their record down to 2-9 with that loss, which was their fourth straight at home. As for Waverly, their win bumped their record up to 7-3.
Gering and Wheatland will face off at 5:30 p.m. on January 11th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Wheatland will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak. Waverly will be staying on the road on Thursday to face off against Bennington at 6:00 p.m. on January 11th. Bennington is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
