Centralia hasn't had much luck against Tumwater recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Tigers will be playing in front of their home fans against the Thunderbirds at 4:30 p.m. Centralia has given up an average of 8.2 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Centralia came into their game on Monday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They lost 11-1 to Aberdeen. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Tigers have suffered against the Bobcats since April 12, 2023.
Meanwhile, Tumwater had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12.8 runs) and they went ahead and made it five on Monday. They put the hurt on the Bearcats with a sharp 14-3 victory. The result was nothing new for the Thunderbirds, who have now won eight contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Ella Ferguson made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing five innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. Those two RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Tumwater let Megan Barrett and Elizabeth McCartney run wild. Barrett went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs, while McCartney went 2-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Those five RBI gave McCartney a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Marissa La Praim, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs and one double.
Tumwater's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-2. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Centralia, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-9-2.
Centralia might still be hurting after the 19-3 loss they got from Tumwater in their previous matchup last Monday. Will the Tigers have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other softball content.
