On Tuesday, the Rio Rancho Rams faced the Cleveland Storm in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Rio Rancho ended up on the wrong side of a tough 85-59 walloping at the hands of Cleveland. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Rio Rancho's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jayden Johnson, who almost dropped a double-double on 18 points and nine rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Chris Lucero, who scored 14 points.
Rio Rancho has not been sharp recently as the team's lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 12-10 record this season. As for Cleveland, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 17-5.
Rio Rancho will head out on the road to square off against Atrisco Heritage Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Cleveland, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Volcano Vista at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Volcano Vista knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past 22 matches -- so hopefully Cleveland likes a good challenge.
