After flying high against the Cook Hornets last Friday, the Fitzgerald Purple Hurricane came back down to earth. Fitzgerald received a tough blow on Tuesday as they fell 59-43 to Sumter County. Fitzgerald was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Sumter County apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played on January 4th.
Despite the loss, Fitzgerald still got an impressive performance from Journy Scott, who scored 21 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kianti McDuffie, who scored eight points.
Fitzgerald's loss dropped their record down to 10-8. As for Sumter County, the win was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 12-6.
Fitzgerald will head out on the road to challenge Jeff Davis at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Jeff Davis will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Georgia Rankings (they are ranked 476th, while Fitzgerald is ranked 144th). As for Sumter County, they will be playing at home against Tift County at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. One thing working in Tift County's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last seven contests.
