Baseball Recap: St. David's Comes Up Short

St. David suffered their closest defeat since April 5, 2024 on Tuesday. They fell just short of the Cary Christian Knights by a score of 5-3. The Warriors have struggled against the Knights recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meeting.

Grey McMahon was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2024.

McMahon wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Smith Goracke, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3. That stolen base was Goracke's first of the season.

St. David's loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 3-2. As for Cary Christian, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-2 record this season.

While St. David's had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday.
