Manistique extended their losing streak to three on Saturday, dropping them down to 2-7. They came up short against the Coleman Cougars, falling 23-1. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Cougars this season, with their most recent defeat being a 22-12 loss on Saturday.
As for Coleman, their victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-5. The result was nothing new for the Cougars, who have now won nine games by six runs or more so far this season.
For Coleman's part, Alex Meyer and Kollin Peters were major factors while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Meyer tossed two innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Meanwhile, Peters pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. What's more, Meyer posted two strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April. At the plate, Meyer went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Peters went 4-for-5 with six RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
In other batting news, Wyatt Bieber and Gavin Pusick did most of the damage at the plate: Bieber went a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, two stolen bases, and four RBI, while Pusick went 4-for-5 with four runs, three RBI, and two doubles. That's the most hits Pusick has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Cole Berth, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Manistique will welcome Rudyard at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Coleman, they will take on Saint Thomas Aquinas at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
