The Spruce Mountain Phoenix will head out on the road to face off against the Oak Hill Raiders at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Oak Hill took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Spruce Mountain, who comes in off a win.
On Wednesday, Spruce Mountain got the win against Mount Abram by a conclusive 24-2. The Phoenix have beaten the Roadrunners the last eight times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Roadrunners has come to flipping the script.
Rylee Turner made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Turner was even better at the plate, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with three stolen bases, four runs, and four RBI.
In other batting news, Mallory Clark was incredible, going 3-for-4 with four runs, four RBI, and one stolen base. Samantha Martin was another key player, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Oak Hill unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They lost 16-2 to North Yarmouth Academy last Thursday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Raiders have suffered since May 13, 2024.
Oak Hill saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sydney Wood, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI. Another was Carlee Austin, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run.
Spruce Mountain came out on top in a nail-biter against Oak Hill when the teams last played back in May of 2024, sneaking past 8-7. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Phoenix since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
