Del Oro is on a six-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while Rocklin is on a four-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Del Oro Golden Eagles will host the Rocklin Thunder at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average, (Del Oro 1.8, Rocklin 1.2) so any runs scored will be well earned.
While Del Oro didn't have the best season last year (they finished 7-19), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They came out on top against Whitney by a score of 7-4 on Tuesday.
Mikayla Finn looked comfortable as she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out ten over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in nine consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Caelyn Campos, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. That home run marked the first that she launched this season. Abby Davidson was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
Del Oro lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That's the most home runs they've posted since back in April of 2024.
Meanwhile, Rocklin got the win against Bella Vista last Monday by a conclusive 9-3. The result was nothing new for the Thunder, who have now won six contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Payton Prior made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over seven innings while giving up three earned runs off 11 hits (and only one walk). Prior was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 3-for-3. Those three hits gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Katie Wetteland was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one double. Another player making a difference was Savannah Lorenzini, who scored three runs while going 1-for-3.
Rocklin's victory bumped their record up to 8-0. As for Del Oro, their win bumped their record up to 10-0.
Wednesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Del Oro hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .404. However, it's not like Rocklin struggles in that department as they've averaged .407. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Del Oro beat Rocklin 8-5 when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Does Del Oro have another victory up their sleeve, or will Rocklin turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
