The Mesa Ridge Grizzlies waltzed into their contest on Saturday with 14 straight wins but they left with 15. Everything went their way against Pueblo Central as Mesa Ridge made off with a 65-41 victory. Mesa Ridge has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 11 games by 20 points or more this season.
It was another big night for Tevin Riehl, who scored 21 points along with six steals and five assists. He is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 17 or more in the last three games he's played. Tanner Widic was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with two steals.
When it comes to explaining why Pueblo Central lost, one person who can't be blamed is Xavier Davis. Despite the final result, he scored seven points along with 11 rebounds and three blocks. Davis is crushing the rebound category: he's posted at least eight every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Ladamien Davis, who scored two points along with five rebounds and five steals.
Even though they lost, Pueblo Central smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mesa Ridge only pulled down seven offensive rebounds.
Mesa Ridge's victory was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 19-2. As for Pueblo Central, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-8.
Mesa Ridge's homestand continues as they prepare to take on Canon City at 7:00 p.m. on February 13th. One thing working in Mesa Ridge's favor is that they have posted big point totals every time they've taken the court this season. As for Pueblo Central, they will head out on the road to square off against Pueblo Centennial at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Pueblo Central is facing Pueblo Centennial at the right time seeing as Pueblo Centennial is stuck on a nine-game losing streak.
