3A - North recap September 4, 2013
Michael Kearns of Judge Memorial ran for the longest rushing play in 3A - North this season against Woods Cross last week. Kearns' team fell to the Wildcats as he sprinted for 56 yards on the play and finished with 72 in all.
Tye Winterton and Nic Smith provided fans with a highlight when they connected against North Sanpete. The connection was good for 83 yards, the longest such play in the league this season.
Union's dynamic duo of Winterton and Smith proved tough for the Hawks to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Winterton threw for 222 yards and 2 touchdowns and Smith had 83 yards receiving. Vil Lutui helped Union's passing attack out by catching 4 balls for 67 yards.
The Cougars' dynamic duo of Winterton and Smith proved to be unstoppable against North Sanpete, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week.
Smith was the best wideout in the league this week as Union beat Matt Roberts' team.
Ryan Cox was the best running back in 3A - North this week. He ran for 172 yards on 16 carries as Emery topped the Hawks. Marco Mota also contributed to the rushing game with 76 yards on the ground.
He went 11-30 with 2 interceptions.
Winterton put up the best numbers through the air as the Cougars beat North Sanpete.
Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, Union's Winterton and Smith have proven to be a lethal combination. Cox from the Spartans leads the league in rushing with 268 yards.
Judge Memorial lost to Woods Cross 41-14 last week, the largest margin of any game. Kearns was a bright spot for the Bulldogs, as he in the loss.
