Salem Academy is ranked highly in their home state and on Wednesday they took on another highly ranked team in the form of Mater Academy East Las Vegas. The Salem Academy Crusaders escaped with a win against the Mater Academy East Las Vegas Knights by the margin of a single free throw, 52-51. The win was just business as usual for the Crusaders, who after five games remain undefeated this season.

Despite the loss, Mater Academy East Las Vegas saw an underclassman step up: freshman Amija Macon went 11 of 24 en route to 31 points along with six steals and five boards. The game was Macon's seventh in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Victoria Rubio-White, who posted nine points.

Salem Academy's victory bumped their record up to 5-0. As for Mater Academy East Las Vegas, with the defeat, they broke their six-game winning streak and moved their record to 6-3.
