The John Battle Trojans's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their seventh straight loss. They took a 48-42 hit to the loss column at the hands of Abingdon. While losing is never fun, John Battle can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 308th, while Abingdon is ranked 54th).
Despite the loss, John Battle still got an impressive performance from Kara Kelley, who scored 20 points along with seven rebounds. Kelley scored a full 47.6% of John Battle's points, the sixth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Wallace, who scored five points along with nine rebounds.
John Battle bumped their record down to 2-8 with that defeat, which was their fourth straight at home. As for Abingdon, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 9-3.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. John Battle will take on Lee at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Lee focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 22 on Friday. As for Abingdon, they will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against Pulaski County at 7:00 p.m.
