Bloomington South and Columbus North are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2017, but likely not for long. The Panthers will be playing in front of their home fans against the Bull Dogs at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Bloomington South is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.8 runs per game this season.
Bloomington South came out on top against Seymour on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run sixth inning. The Panthers walked away with a 5-1 victory over the Owls. The win continues a trend for the Panthers in their matchups with the Owls: they've now won three in a row.
Rachel Johnson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on five hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Akasha Burton, who went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Sloane Barrett also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Meanwhile, Columbus North came up short against Brownstown Central on Monday and fell 7-4.
Payton Morris put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off two hits. Morris was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one double.
In other batting news, Miley McClellan made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Another player making a difference was Lily Retz, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI.
Columbus North's loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 8-10. As for Bloomington South, their victory bumped their record up to 10-3.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. Bloomington South hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.6 home runs per game. However, it's not like Columbus North struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.6 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Bloomington South couldn't quite finish off Columbus North in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 and fell 2-0. Will the Panthers have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
