The Union Mine Diamondbacks had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 13.5 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They took their contest at home with ease, bagging a 92-55 victory over KIPP SF College Prep. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Union Mine was led to victory by Isaac Zmerzlikar and Nate Sweet. Zmerzlikar dropped a double-double on 20 points and 11 rebounds, while Sweet dropped a double-double on 28 points and 12 rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Sweet has scored at least 25% of Union Mine's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Hayden Otte, who scored 15 points.
Union Mine's victory bumped their record up to 3-0. As for KIPP SF College Prep, their loss dropped their record down to 0-1.
Union Mine will square off against Roseville at TBD on Friday. Hopefully Roseville focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up six on Thursday. As for KIPP SF College Prep, they will square off against Casa Roble at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. One thing working in Casa Roble's favor is that they have posted big point totals every time they've taken the court this season.
