The Monroe-Woodbury Crusaders will challenge the Goshen Central Gladiators at 11:00 a.m. on Monday. Both teams are still undefeated (Monroe-Woodbury has four wins , while Goshen Central has three).
On Friday, Monroe-Woodbury made easy work of Kingston and carried off a 13-1 win.
Gabby Schaeffer was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with one home run and three runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Callie Exarchakis, who scored two runs while going 3-for-4.
Schaeffer wasn't the only one making solid contact: Monroe-Woodbury kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Goshen Central got the win against Newburgh Free Academy on Friday by a conclusive 10-3.
Addison Freiberger made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Sophia Springer, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4. What's more, she posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Bailey Gomulka, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.
Goshen Central's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 3-0. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.7 runs on average this season. As for Monroe-Woodbury, their victory bumped their record up to 4-0.
Goshen Central's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Monroe-Woodbury has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .449. It's a different story for Goshen Central, though, as they've only averaged .357. Will they be able to contain Monroe-Woodbury's hitters?
Monroe-Woodbury skirted past Goshen Central 2-1 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Do the Crusaders have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Gladiators turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
