After having lost a blowout in their previous game, Hammond was happy to have turned things around on Saturday. They walked away with an 8-4 victory over the Sumner Cowboys. The Tornadoes' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Josh Triolo was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, he gave up only one walk, the fewest he's had since back in April of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Reid Hoover was excellent, going 1-for-4 with three RBI and one triple. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Lathan Ducote, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.
Hammond's record now sits at 2-6. As for Sumner, they suffered their first home defeat, dropping their record down to 5-2.
Coming up, Hammond will host Loranger at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Sumner, they will take on French Settlement in a tournament on Thursday.
