The Yorktown Tigers will head out to square off against the Shenandoah Raiders at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
While Yorktown's win against Wes-Del wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Tigers skirted past the Warriors 4-2. The victory continues a trend for the Tigers in their matchups with the Warriors: they've now won three in a row.
Cohen West spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on one hit and racked up 12 Ks. Those 12 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for him.
On the hitting side, Yorktown saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sam Tokar, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run and one double. Noah Loveall was another, going 1-for-3 with three RBI.
Meanwhile, Shenandoah entered their tilt with Madison-Grant on Friday with four consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with five. They put the hurt on the Argylls with a sharp 7-0 win. Considering the Raiders have won nine games by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Collin Osenbaugh made a big impact no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 12 over seven innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run, two RBI, and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Aiden Coffey, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs. What's more, he posted two hits, the most he's had since back in April.
Shenandoah's victory was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 12-3. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.1 runs on average over those games. As for Yorktown, the victory got them back to even at 9-9.
