Basketball Recap: Aztec Piles Up the Points Against Miyamura

You can't lose the game if you win every quarter, and that was precisely Aztec's strategy against Miyamura on Saturday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Aztec Tigers blew the Miyamura Patriots out of the water with a 59-18 final score. The Tigers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight games by 20 points or more this season.

Aztec's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jazzlyn Gomez, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 13 steals. Gomez is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 20 games she's played dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was Khloe Schmidt, who almost dropped a double-double on 17 points and nine steals.

Aztec smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 30 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

Aztec's win bumped their record up to 10-8. As for Miyamura, they are on a 16-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-17.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Aztec has already played their next contest (against Shiprock), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Miyamura will take on Kirtland Central at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Kirtland Central will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something Miyamura surely won't give up without a fight.
