The Creekview Mustangs will be playing in front of their home fans against the Argyle Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Creekview has struggled recently with 19 losses in a row, while Argyle will arrive with seven straight wins.
Last Thursday, it was a hard-fought match, but Creekview had to settle for a 24-21 loss against Memorial. That's two games in a row now that Creekview has lost by exactly three points.
Despite their loss, Creekview saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Dre Richardson, who rushed for 172 yards and a touchdown while picking up 7.8 yards per carry, was perhaps the best of all. Richardson hasn't dropped below 100 rushing yards for four straight games. Jett Chaney was another key contributor, throwing for 122 yards and two touchdowns on only five passes.
Even if they lost, Creekview's defense sure didn't make it easy: Memorial's QB was sacked three times before it was all said and done. Leading the way was Destine Deans and his two sacks.
Meanwhile, Argyle stacked a fifth blowout onto their ever-increasing hoard on Friday. They blew past Denton 59-0 at home. Given Argyle's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 89th, while Denton is ranked 605th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Argyle had a senior duo take command as Jake Krekeler rushed for 204 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 9.3 yards per carry and Lane Stewart gained 101 total yards and three touchdowns. The team also got some help courtesy of Preston Slaton, who rushed for 58 yards and a touchdown on only six carries.
Creekview's defeat was their tenth straight on the road (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 0-9. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 15.1 points per game. As for Argyle, their victory bumped their record up to 7-2.
Creekview might still be hurting after the 50-24 loss they got from Argyle when the teams last played back in November of 2022. Will Creekview have more luck at home instead of on the road?
