The West Columbus Vikings entered their tilt with the Pender Patriots with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. West Columbus put the hurt on Pender with a sharp 75-51 victory on Friday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win West Columbus has posted since December 20, 2023.
West Columbus had a senior duo take command as Unique Kelly scored 28 points along with five steals and Jaylen Bellamy scored 18 points along with six steals and five rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Kelly has scored at least a third of West Columbus' points. The team also got some help courtesy of Tyler Watts-Brown, who scored 12 points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Several Patriots players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Demarius White, who scored 12 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points White has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Cyrus Page, who scored 12 points.
West Columbus pushed their record up to 7-4 with that win, which was their fifth straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 69.4 points per game. As for Pender, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-9.
West Columbus will head out on the road to face off against East Columbus at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. East Columbus has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games. Pender won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Wallace-Rose Hill at 5:30 p.m. on January 20th.
